Neuroscience/Spinal Cord: Medical aspects II

Objectives

When presented with the results of a history and physical examination students will be able to make a diagnosis of acute transverse myelitis.
When presented with a list of common spinal cord signs and symptoms students will be able to correctly identify those one would expect to see in a patient with acute transverse myelitis.
When asked students will be able to identify the two conditions whose signs and symptoms may mimic acute transverse myelitis.
When presented with a history and physical examination students will be able to make a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and correctly identify the conditions to be considered in the differential diagnosis of this condition and the investigations that are useful in reaching the diagnosis.
When presented with a history and physical examination students will be able to make a diagnosis of subacute combined degeneration and indicate how that diagnosis can be confirmed.
