Objectives

Compare and contrast Conductive and Sensorineural Hearing loss.
Be familiar with the common symptoms which suggest ear disease is present.
Become familiar with the differential diagnosis of a patient with sensorineural hearing loss. Be especially aware of the distinction between congenital and acquired conditions and be able to differentiate between conditions in either category.
Briefly describe treatments for sensorineural hearing loss.
List the components of a cochlear implant and describe how the cochlear nerve is stimulated.
