Objectives

  • Compare and contrast Conductive and Sensorineural Hearing loss.
  • Be familiar with the common symptoms which suggest ear disease is present.
  • Become familiar with the differential diagnosis of a patient with sensorineural hearing loss. Be especially aware of the distinction between congenital and acquired conditions and be able to differentiate between conditions in either category.
  • Briefly describe treatments for sensorineural hearing loss.
  • List the components of a cochlear implant and describe how the cochlear nerve is stimulated.
