Neuroscience/Neuroophthalmology
From IKE
Points to remember:
- Testing of both visual acuity and visual fields is critical in the evaluation of the abnormal optic disc.
- A patient with a unilateral optic nerve lesion should have equal pupils in ambient light, but a positive swinging-flashlight test.
- A blurred disc margin is not diagnostic for papilledema. Other signs and symptoms must be considered.
- Chiasmal disease is most likely to cause a bitemporal field defect.
