Objectives

At the end of this lecture you will know:

  • The clinical presentation of CNS tumours
  • The difference between primary and secondary CNS tumours
  • The differences between CNS tumours in adults and children
  • That adult CNS tumours are most likely to be one of the following: metastasis, glioblastoma, oligodendroglioma, meningioma, schwannoma
  • That childhood CNS tumours are relatively common, and common examples include pilocytic astrocytomas and medulloblastomas
  • The general behaviour and possibilities for treatment of these tumours
  • In addition, you will have seen gross and microscopic features of representative tumours
