The middle rectal artery is one of the visceral branches of the internal iliac arteries of the pelvis. It is not always present, but when present supplies the rectum and anastomoses with branches of the superior rectal artery and the inferior rectal artery. In the male, it may also give branches to the prostate gland and seminal vesicle.
