The menstrual cycle is the cycle by which the reproductive female experiences menses, the ultimate goal of which is ovulation and pregnancy. The cycle has four main phases: follicular (proliferative), ovulatory, luteal (secretory), and menstrual.
A normal menstrual cycle may last between 21 and 35 days, with 3 to 10 days of menses and up to 80mL of blood lost per cycle.
Problems
Irregular patterns of bleeding include menorrhagia, hypomenorrhea, polymenorrhea, metrorrhagia, oligomenorrhea, amenorrhea, and menometorrhagia.
