Integrated prenatal screen

The integrated prenatal screen is a fetal screening tool given to the reproductive female during pregnancy. It can detect up to 95% of Down's syndrome cases, with a false-positive rate of approximately 5%.

The integrated prenatal screen consists of the pregnancy associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A), which acts as a metalopeptidase. Low PAPP-A readings indicate Down's syndrome, trisomy 18, or trisomy 13.

This screen is most effective between 11 and 14 weeks gestation.
