Gonadotropin is a hormone capable of promoting gonadal growth and function.

Puberty

Pubertal levels of gonadotropins are secreted shortly after birth in primates and humans, though this is followed by a prolonged suppression of pituitary activity during juvenile years. The hypothalmic-pituitary-gonadal axis is capable of functioning in adult fashion during infancy. It has been established that the sensitivity of the hypothalamic/pituitary unit to the negative feedback effects of gonadal steroids is greater in children than adults.

The diurnal pattern of LH/FSH secretion changes during puberty. Non-neural changes in the reproductive axis also occur.
