Basics

• acts on parietal cells and causes ECL cells to secrete histamine
• hormonal control of gastric acid secretion
• trophic to the acid-producing gastric mucosa
• Released by G-cells in the antrum in response to:
  1. amino acids
  2. polypeptides
  3. vagal activity
  4. stomach distension
• Gastrin release is inhibited by acid (pH <3)
