Blood is the red stuff in the human circulatory system. It has both cellular and plasma (fluid) components. The cellular component accounts for 45% of the blood mass and consists of:

• Red blood cells (erythrocytes; contain hemoglobin)
• White blood cells (leukocytes)
• Platelets (thrombocytes)

The plasma (fluid) component accounts for the other 55%, and is divided into:

• Water (95%)
• Proteins (albumin, gamma globulins, clotting factors)
• Electrolytes (Na⁺, Cl^-, K⁺,etc.. )
• Glucose, fats and minerals

Blood is made by hematopoiesis.
